United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres had announced, on 20 April 2026, the appointment of Dr. Rania Al-Mashat of the Arab Republic of Egypt as Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCWA.
The agreement falls under the Country Platform for Green Projects, the NWFE Program (Nexus on Water, Food, and Energy), and will be implemented from 2026 to 2029.
The new facility houses the region’s largest automated sorting machine, with a capacity of 11,000 shipments per hour and up to 250,000 shipments per day.
The ministry said the uptick was driven by improving productive sectors and the continued implementation of economic and structural reforms.
The program aims to support the green transition in the industrial sector, reduce emissions, and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian industry.
